Meet The Governors

Phil Callan - Chair of Governors

As the Government and the LEA pull further away from directly supporting schools the responsibility falls more upon the Governors and the community to ensure that we have a strong school for our children. As a parent who has gained so much from our daughter attending such an outstanding school I felt it was time for me to ‘do my bit’ for the school. Being a Governor is a fulfilling role where you can actively support your school.

Sandra Harding - Co-opted Governor

Both my daughters attend Marksbury and have now started competitive degrees at their chosen Universities. Marksbury School (and supportive parents...) stimulated the beginning of their learning journey. I have been involved in healthcare management for over 20 years and we hope this experience and and understanding of another regulated environment adds to my role. I am very proud of Marksbury School and very happy to give something back.

Carole Allen-Smith - Foundation Governor

I decided to become a governor, firstly to be active within the school community, secondly to participate in the education of children. That was fifteen years ago! My involvement has been as a parent governor, foundation governor and I am now ex-officio foundation governor (I represent Preb. Jan on the governing body). I have been chair for a number of terms, a role it has been my privilege to serve in supporting this school.

Mike Keynes - Co-opted Governor

I wanted to become a governor to take an active part in the life of the school and also as a resident of Marksbury, I am keen to encourage strong community links. My twin daughters are in Foundation Stage and I am committed to support the school however I can. I have a strong financial background as a qualified accountant and hope that my skills and experience can benefit the school.

Tony Caisley - Foundation Governor

I was delighted to be asked to become a foundation governor at Marksbury School. I retired five years ago after a thirty-five year career, teaching mainly Year 5 and 6. During that time I spent eight years as a teacher governor. I have been a churchwarden at Marksbury Church for many years. Everything I have seen about the school convinces me that it is thriving and I look forward to playing a part in its continuing development.

Claire Weinburg - Parent Governor

Awaiting photo and information.

Kim Eyres - Parent Governor

I have been a governor for a several years and I have recently taken on the role of Chair of the Finance Committee, ensuring that we use our budget to best effect in this thriving school. I have three daughters, two of which are at Marksbury with the youngest keen to join her older sisters!

Anthony Smith - Local Authority Governor

Marksbury, Wellsway, Surrey, Moscow and now working in Barcelona. That is the progression of my youngest son since he started at Marksbury School. That is why I accepted the invitation to become a Governor of this school. I am trying to put a little somethingback into the community.

                     Julie Player - Head Teacher

I became the Head at Marksbury at Easter 2015. I have already been to several governor meetings and have found everyone to be really supportive, knowledgeable and friendly. Being involved with the Governors has also helped me to meet the wider school community.

 Suzanne Thompson - Deputy/Senior Teacher

My Marksbury experience began 9 years ago.  I have always taught in the Early Years and I currently share the role of Deputy headteacher.  I think we have a great team here at Marksbury and I enjoy my role as teacher governor.
