Applying for your child to start school in Reception
When you are ready to apply for a primary school place, Bath & North East Somerset Local Authority manages the admissions for Reception, on behalf of The Partnership Trust. For further information see here
Starting School in Reception
Most children start school in the September following their fourth birthday. Legally, however, children do not have to start school until the beginning of the term following their fifth birthday. Parents can choose to defer the start of school until January or April if they wish. If you would like to find out more, please get in touch.
To make sure children have a happy and confident start to school we run a carefully managed induction programme in September. This includes shorter sessions and school days so that the staff team can build relationships with the children. It also gives them time to settle into new routines.
Before starting in September, children and parents are invited into school for a series of induction events in the summer term. In the first term, parents are invited to curriculum events where information is shared to help them support their child’s learning.
Our planned admission numbers (PAN) are 15 for planned entry in the Reception year.
Applying if your child is starting at any other time, or for another year group (In Year Admissions)
If you would like to apply for a place at Marksbury School at any other time, or for any other year group beyond Reception, this is known as In Year Admissions. As an own admission authority, The Partnership Trust is responsible for setting in year admissions processes for all schools within it.

When children are entering part way through a school year we work closely with parents/carers to create an induction process that makes transition as smooth as possible.
